Hi guys, I'm new here. i'm 28 years old and built a street motor. i'ts a 416 small block with indy 360-1... now here's my issue. Last year i was running this motor with cast X heads fully ported by a known mopar guy in montreal with a solid flat tappet cam. motor made 518hp 504 torque. ran a 7.01 on the 1/8th in a 3500# volare with suspension issues.. now.. went on the dynon last week .. after spending over 7000K ... with indy heads and now a roller cam setup... motor made 538 and 509 torque. any guys had a simillar experience ? if so I'd really like your input... thanks in advance.

steve

i suspect either something else is "off" about your combo or you have some tuning issues to sort out.

What size headers are you running? Is the compression the same between the motors?

I'm no expert, but from what I read here by the small block head gurus, the Indy heads are not great out of the box, they need porting before they reach their potential. The question is what was done to the Indy heads?
And as Dan suggested, there's a lot of importance to the whole combo, so you might want to give more specifics for the experts to chime in.

Finally - disc brakes on the front.
In the plans - rear disc brakes, B&M 250 blower

Has the intake been modified any in the upper plenum area? I found that the carb mnt flange hangs out under the throttle blades on mine. Jim

well.. the heads are ported... CNC ported and were finished off by hand by my motor guy.. we made 339 @ 700 lift. my cam is a roller 649/651 with 1.6 ratio rockers making it close to 700 lift. my intake was retouched especially around the base since the bolts from the accelerator pump were hitting the intake not letting the carb sit down properly. the hedders are 1.750" super comps. the compression is exactly the same. not much but close to 10.50.. and was done with 94 octane pump gas.

thanks for the input guys.

hey guys... just wanted to give you an update... just got out of the dyno yesterday... now to clarify one thing. after measuring the chambers on the heads... indy advertises 63 cc's. well after my head guy measured them twice... we got 67.8 cc's. making my compression gor down in the 9's which is way too low with 245cc runners. well even though all that. we made 562hp and 519 lbs/tq with 89 octane ethanol which i think is still fair. So i now have another project for this winter... new pistons !... hoping to get closer to the 600 mark on pump gas...
