What are your thoughts?
My thoughts... ...I think the MT street radial is the best street tire on the market. If you cant hook with this tire you have other problems. Your front suspension or chassis is not set correct. There are guys running 7 sec passes(1/4) on smaller tires. What is your PSI, I use to run around 18PSI. I have ran these tires since they came out and will not run another brand. I have gotten 1.36 60' time with my old street car running MT street radials. Is your car an auto or stick? How do you leave, at idel or on the converter or do you use a brake. Testing should be done to see what the tire/car likes. If its spinning why is it spinning? Are you getting the tire hot? How do you do a burn out?...Is the front end traveling like it should. If you can barrow a set of slicks and do a test at the track, run the radials and then the slicks..I bet you the radials will be faster and lower ET then the slicks. I know not all cars are the same. And not all cars will hook the same. But these tire have the best bite ive ever seen from slicks to DOT street racing tires. Get some video of the car, see what its doing on the line, how it reacts...Testing,testing,testing...You will get it to hook on the Radials, trust me....Phill

Just another point to consider. Whilst I can't comment on M/T Drag Radials, I have used M/T Radial slicks. I found these to be very dependant on the track prep. On a good track they hooked better than the regular bias ply but the bias ply are more forgiving on a less well prepared surface. HTH's

I am running a pro drag radial on my Challenger. It is not a street tire but radials are way less forgiving than regular bias slicks. I can race my car at four out of the five local tracks we have around here. The other track I can never get down without just completely blowing the tires off of the car. They are dependent on a good surface. The track prep at the track your having problems with is most likely the cause.

The conditions have to be just right or I blow the tires off.
You kind of answered you own question concerning traction. Not all tracks are the same or prep the track the same. Some places cut back to save money. It's not an easy job for the tracks. I can go to an IHRA divisional or national event and unless there is an unusual, isolated situation on a particular run, I can pull the wheels on every run. I've been to local tracks where one day I hook every time and other days it spins half the time.
Rear tire rollout has minimal affect on traction. While a taller tire can actually have a little more surface contact with the track, it's certainly not enough to overcome major traction issues. A shorter tire can actually make them worse not only because of a little less contact surface, but because it would make the car think it has more gear ratio (numerically) which can aggrevate the situation.
Footbraking, carb tuning with the pump cam and squirters can help the car hook by getting the proper amount and duration of accellerator pump shot. If there are any lean or rich spots during the launch - 60', it can cause a dip in the application of power and unload the suspension enough, or not load it enough to begin with, to spin the tires.
But it looks like track conditions are more to blame, especially now in the summer with higher heat and humidity.

On my car I had to change the setup a lot to get the radials to work on a consistant basis. My rear shocks are set to full soft on both compression and extension. When the traction is really good in cooler weather I can tighten the compression some. I also have front coilovers and have been going to lighter and lighter front springs to store more energy. I also put the front of the ladder bars up a hole to hit the tire harder. These radials since they don't rinkle really need to be hit hard. Also put a little weight in the trunk. Hope some of this helps. I run the pro drag radials because when they hook they are deadly consitant so getting them to be happy every pass is the name of the game for me. Good luck.

Thats what I was looking for,I know they are good tires but want to go out and just race and have fun. I think the Hoosiers from what I have been told may be a little more forgiving on a track with poor prep. Want to set it and race.Just don't know how much 1/2 inch shorter tire will change things. Understand the size is a fitment issue not trying to solve the problem with tire size.
