Ok, I know I asked this before, but lost my post...

Ok I'm going fromstock rockers to 1.6 Harland Sharp rockers on my 440 engine. What will my lifet be after this change?

Current cam is XE268 comp cam 224/230 @.50 and .477/.480 gross valve lift.

Thanks

Mike

(1.6 / 1.5) * (lift w/ 1.5s)

OR

lobe lift * 1.6

C'mon people, this is some really basic math stuff, and yet it's a more commonly asked question on here than I can understand why.

Valve lift divided by your current 1.5 then times that # by 1.6 to get lift with 1.6 rockers

lift w/ 1.5 (stock ratio) X 1.066 = new lift w/1.6's

NEVER hesitate to ask questions around here. Thats the whole point of this board.

Thks all, Now i guess my next question is do I need to update my retainers then? 440 source says the retainers are good up to .510 lift, so man that is close! What do you all think? I'm not going any higher lift wise with it right now, so I'm hoping it can stay.

Also do you guy see any clearance issues with my mopar performance valve covers.

NEVER hesitate to ask questions around here.

Unless it's rilly obvious, and has been answered 500 times this week.

Redundant posts are still not as bad as long lug nut posts

As in all things when changes are made, be careful.

If I understand you comment about retainers being "good" to .510 lift, then your exhaust lift, at .512 is not "good". It's only .002 inch, but coil bind, or collision it's still a hit, and that's how you break stuff.

Measure yourself, or find some one reliable to measure for you before you proceed. Know for sure if it's gonna be safe.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

And that rude personal remark pretty much outlines your technical competence: you can only think of 1 question on the subject.

We need a new category:
"I won't buy or read the service manual, or the instructions I got with the parts I bought.
I won't call the manufacturer, or do any research.
I won't do a search to see how many times this exact question was already asked today.
Instead, I'll ask a question that reveals that I have no idea what I'm doing, and should take up knitting instead.
Having done this, I'll wait 15 minutes before complaining that 'no one is helping me'."

Sound too familiar?

You crack me up Poly. You love to wow us with your intellectual automotive facts, just so long as we play by your rules, and make sure we've checked every other source first. I don't care how many books you've written on the Poly 318, you are not the holy grail of Mopar information. Get off your high horse, buddy...

Call 440 Source to make sure but I think there heads are good to .600 lift with there valve retainers, keepers and valve springs. I have a set and when I recieved them I randomly took several of the valves out of both heads and checked the valve springs for pressures (145 lbs on the seats average and 325 to 375 lbs opened from .500 lift to .600 lift, plenty good in my book for a hydraulic or solid lifter cam ) and retainer to seal clearances as well as coil bind I'm jinks by Murphy so I change all the retainers and keepers to 10 degree on all of my heads, but that is just me Once bit, twice shy As far as the increase in lift you can do the math if you know the lobe lift by multipling the lobe lift by the rocker ratio of both sets or if you don't know the lobe lift divide the advertised cam lift at the retainer by 1.5 and then multiply that number by 1.6 to see the differencce in lobe lift between thw two sets of rockers If I was you I would not use the wimpy cam your posting on the first post, man up and get a XE285HL or maybe if you have a stock converter and power brakes get the XE275HL BB Mopars love to have the valves opended a lot as far as the mopar cast aluminum valve covers I use them with the thick black valve cover gaskets on all of my motors including my 518 C.I street stroker with .720 net valve lift No problems ever with the rocker adjsusters hitting, the 518 has Harland Sharp 1.6 rocker on it, the 526 motor has T&D 1.65 rockers with .730 net lift the same covers
