Is the Timing chain set different for the "Roller Cam" (than the stock flat tappet)in my 1990 LA 318?? Or can I just by a replacement set?

IIRC,yes

the 90 roller cam will be a short nose cam

IIRC the t sprocket is a diff thickness and has a diff washer bolt set up

have them pull the 2 off the shelf and compair them

I don't think so, it isn't until the Magnum 318 came out that the roller cam changed. And I don't believe that happened till 91.

If it's still an LA 318 then it still uses the same timing set. Looke at the valve cover bolts, 5 means LA, 10 means Magnum (per cover).

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

It's definitely a LA motor with a roller cam not a magnum motor....but I questioned the timing set because the flat tappet hydraulic cam timing sets look different than what I took off my roller cam motor. So I'm guessing they are def different and I can't just get a regular double roller to fit, it has to be Roller cam specific??.

Timing events are the same and they do interchange- I took a low miles double roller set that was from my 340 engine back in the 80's and just installed it on my 1994 5.9 Magnum engine.

I checked the cam timing events, everything was the same.
