Here's a shot of the old Vaca Valley Raceway near Vacaville, CA. In the pic the drag strip is the left side of the oval. Still visible from I-80 near the Midway-Lewis Road turnoff. Spent many a Saturday evening there.

Looks like if you run out of track you can use the lake to stop ya , unless thats where the starting line was.

Pics of the Belpre Dragstrip today. Closed around 1963-'64, not sure just which year. It is located about 1 mile from my house.

At least,,the road it was located on has been given an appropriate name!!! Some of the younger folks in my area, think the road was named that because of ME!

Fred, I knew there used to be a drag strip over there but, I always
thought it was where the grass air field is on the north side of
Rt. 50, on the way out of town.

We used to drag race on 618 back when I was around there.

No, Vic, it was located on Township road #97. "Dragstrip Rd." takes off 618 between Redwood Resturant and Shell/Kraton plant and runs toward Mill Branch Rd. past the Yellow Trucking terminal and on over the hills. In fact, the man that owned the Redwood owned the Dragstrip too,,,and of course the Redwood had drive-in/curb service then, so he got the Saturday night business as well as the Sunday drag business!

Forgot about this!!! I have one of the flyers framed in my shop. It must be for the opening day in 1961 as I know it was open several years before then.

Heres a link with a bunch of old pics of a Aquasco Speedway in Southern Maryland. It also has pics at the bottom of the page of what the track looks like now.

Bringing this topic BACK alive ... ...

MCD was closed-then-REopened several times. I made about 2G's from there.

Ole Double D ? ... almost 20 LARGE !

THOSE were the days..... between Detroit, Motor City and Milan ... you could race some-times FIVE TIMES a week !

When gas was 50 cents per gallon and 260 Sunoco gas was 106? octane !

I remember when I was 16 years old going to US 30 and watching Dyno Don Nicholson and Dandy Dick Landy match race their floppers. I'm 62 now so that's been a day or two. LOL

Tucson Dragstrip closed about 1985 (sometimes known as Tucson Drugway - as the promoter was flying stuff in from Mexico and using the track as a landing strip).. picture taken in 2002. Left lane. You can just see the right lane. The housing developments are right next to it now.

We went to Howland strip a few times.Meander is pretty much the same way.I remember at Meander you had to quit racing so planes could land.Rocky

Meander is where I learned to drag race back in the 1980's in my '65 Cuda. The girl friend (now wife) and I spent a ton of Friday and Saturday nights racing there. It was called Youngstown Drag City then.

I still remember the tech procedure there. "Got seat belts? Use them. What about a helmet? Better use that too."

I'll see if I can scan some of my old pictures and post them.
