abandoned race cars or racetracks - 07/16/10 07:16 PM
Lets see some old racers sitting wasting away or old tracks now closed.

That is the old Howland Dragstrip in Howland, Ohio, just outside of Warren. It closed in 1964 and is slowly being overtaken by a housing development.

Here's a shot of the old Vaca Valley Raceway near Vacaville, CA. In the pic the drag strip is the left side of the oval. Still visible from I-80 near the Midway-Lewis Road turnoff. Spent many a Saturday evening there.

Looks like if you run out of track you can use the lake to stop ya , unless thats where the starting line was.

Some pic's of Motor City Dragway, Closed in the late 60's or early 70's. (I can't remember, but I do remember the old radio ads) Motor City Dragway
EDIT: the author of that thread states late seventies, But I remember driving by it around 75 and seeing it abandoned then.
Quote:I remember when I was 16 years old going to US 30 and watching Dyno Don Nicholson and Dandy Dick Landy match race their floppers. I'm 62 now so that's been a day or two. LOL
Here's a link to the photos and info on US 30 out by Hobart Indiana..

Where in Georgia? What track? Sad to see them fade away but you can't save them all.
