Any rear end lube that is on sale at your Wallymart or any other store.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

Any autopart store will have it "limited slip additive" A lot of guys including myself like the GM version you can get through the dealer. If you say sure grip additive unless they are a mopar guy expect to see this on the face

I use Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 synthetic in my race car, tow truck and everyday truck. They also have 75w-110 and 75w-140. The lighter viscosity will free up a bit more power and mpg if you don't need the higher viscosity versions. It all has a limited slip additive but on rare occasions, you may have to buy some seperately.

Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90

Good stuff which my differential guy like also.

BESTest stuff I have found (other than the original skunk-oil) is the Mobil 1 syn gear lube.

It depends. Do you like your gear oil too thick, too thin, or right within SAE specification?

The chart does not list the GL rating of each oil. Isn't that a very important factor when comparing shear stabilty?

street car.

as said regular parts house stuff but in a 85-140 wt and a bottle of the skunk additive. I dont think a street car is going to generate enough heat to warrant the expense of synthetics in this app

The gear lubes tested in the chart are American Petroleum Institute (API) GL-5, SAE 75W-90 synthetic gear lubes. Samples of API GL-5, SAE 80W-90 petroleum gear lubes were also included for comparative purposes.

The chart is one of many taken from: A Study of Automotive Gear Lubes - pdf. link

Works for me, used the GM additive suggested by Dr Diff.

Well, good ol' 80/90 gear oil kept it together for 40 plus years, so I guess the 80/90 will keep it together for another 40.

There are all kinds of lubes for special situations - drag racing, sustained 130 MPH ect. ... but for you no added value. 80W/90 with the limited slip additive should work fine. Both from the autoparts store.

This study is published by Amsoil Inc., and, surprise, Amsoil Severe gear 75W-90 comes out on top.

I'll take this one with a large grain of salt, thank you.

Just another of the endless amsoil ads. He sells the stuff so of course anything he posts about it will make it look best.
