Diablo OP super stock D Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,106 Quebec, Canada	When i bought my enclosed race trailer this year it had a Onan Generator 4000 Genseet Emerald Plus in it which the previous owner hooked up. When i went to use the winch it drained the battery. I found out quickly that when the generator is running it is NOT charging the battery. There is a plug with a bunch of cut off wires running off the generator. Anyone know how i can get it to charge the battery?

Oh by the way there is NO charging circuit on that gen... dont ya just love it.... that gen was for a motor home and it used the motor home batteries

emarine01 master E Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 3,695 nc	I am not that familiar with small onan gas units but the diesel marine units have a dc winding on the main shaft next to the fan , Check the control box cover for a diagram, If it has the winding just run the wires from the box to the batts

I even bought the book on it to see what was wrong with it... still didnt believe the book(who could build a gen without a charging circuit) so I even called the dealer... nope, no charging circuit

I also installed a trickle charger to keep the battery up and it is wired into the panel in the trailer,caution though you need an rv transfer switch If pluging into household power.I bought a RV auto transfer switch for 140 bucks.

emarine01 master E Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 3,695 nc	I never liked Onans, We call them O-no-s in the shop cause they suck, parts are way over priced and they are built as cheap as they come, 20 years ago they built good units now its just a popular name, how can they sell a power generating plant that is not self contained and a parasitic load on another system, I know its not too big a deal to plug in a charger off the ac side but they should have that built in for the bux they charge .... Sorry guys I don't know where that came from
