what would make the brake light on my 74 satellite stay on when key is on (light in the dash) also i have headlights but i have no tail lights or brake lights whats the deal??

there is a switch on the e brake foot pedal, like the dome light switch in the door jam. might need adjusted. as foor the other lights, check the fuses and connections.

Also could be a bad connection where the wire hooks to the brake proportioning valve / d-block on the drivers side inner fender.

does the brake/tail lights run a fuse? i thought thay had own system with the headlights??

Yes they do share a fuse.

brake lights shares same dome light fuse... also glovebox

parking lights/sidemarkers and cluster, shares same fuse, even cluster lights have an EXTRA one from the lights switch dimmer output

brake light at cluster is double function. Emergency brake and brake fluid pressure fail at dist block

so far the only thing that works(far as lights) is head lights,dome light,the blinker on top of the fender will come on(for the side i have leaver turned for that side) but will not flash

I would say you have a grounding issue. Sounds like it's trying to find ground through the brake warning light.

Pull the cluster, clean all the contacts, inspect all the pins and add a new ground.

Secondly, if after this things begin to work but you still don't have park/dash lights, I would recommend changing the headlight switch. 99% of the time, the dimmer rheostat is bad and/or the park circuit of the switch is toast.

thats the thing i do have dsah lights and dome light,glove box light

Take the drivers side kick panel out to get to the taillight harness and see if you have power there. Seems like something isnt right that you dont have any lights back there. If it was the turn signals I would suggest the turn signal harness in the steering column, and the brake lights could be the switch on the brake pedal. As far as the dash brake light stuck on check the e-brake pedal to make sure it is all the way up.
