What is the correct size and type (red or white stripe) spare tire for a 68 Dart GTS 340 car?

My 68 still had a redline in the trunk when I bought it in 1983. It had seen pavement, though.

E70-14 for GTS 340/383, D70-14 for slant six or 273/318 with HD suspension in 68 if I am not mistaken

I believe E70 is correct, and is stated the same in the 68 brochure, but if the spare is the same size, it doesn't fit flush in the trunk well, and looks odd!

It is and it does.

Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

tires are listed on the fender tag in '68 ...

D70-14 black - 26
D70-14 red - 28
D70-14 white - 27
E70-14 red - 38 - I believe this is the STD '68 GTS tire FIRESTONE
E70-14 white - 39
E70-14 red GOODYEAR - 42

or something close to that.

Don't dis' the "white" streaks too quickly ...
The "buzz" about many colored old cars is a pretty current trend, most cars "back in the day" didn't clash as is popular now.

What's the factory color combination for the car?
I'd take a WAG and bet your GTS is well optioned $$$, white streak tires were more "adult" not "kids" stuff.
White top, interior, or stripes? ... or is it triple-green?

Hey Dan,

My car is a red convertible 340 automatic GTS Dart, with black interior, top, and bumble bee stripe. Not really a lot of options - light package, power steering (not brakes, and no discs, console, buckets, dual remote mirrors, AM radio, and woodgrain wheel. I have the fender tag, but not the broadcast sheet. California car all it's life. Numbers matching engine/trans.

Dan in CA.
