Hoping for a bit of help here
I have a customer that recently purchased a 72 Demon bench seat car with a 340 3 spd. he wanted a 4spd in it so i purchased all of the components from brewers and installed them in the car. I am questioning the supplied shifter handle as it appears to be too far to the left and is causing him issues when braking. I should mention he is 6'2". His knee has a tendency to either hit the shifter or the backside of the steering wheel when braking .

I am wondering if there is a difference between bench seat and bucket seat shifter handles??? maybe brewers mistakenly sent the wrong one???? Unfortunately brewers is closed due to the show. Any help is greatly appreciated

I have a bucket seat original 4spd 72 demon and Im a tall guy. All the stock shifters I tried had the same problem as you- my knee hits them. Including bench seat sticks.

Along with long legs I was blessed with long knuckle dragging monkey arms. The solution for me was a short (comes about 6" out of the floor) shifter with a pistol grip for a little extra leverage. It does require a little extra oomph to shift but it's no big deal and the shifts are positive and short.

My bent knee is able to hang over the shifter for clearance and comfort and I don't have to lean foreward to reach it. A short or feeble guy might not have as much fun with it though.

My dart has a 4 speed and when I put a pistol grip in last year I found that a previous owner made a bracket to move the handle about 2 " to the passenger side. I'm 6'2" and it works well.

Hi Mark,
Are you saying the previous owner mad a bracket to move the stock shifter handle 2" to the right??? If so, any pic's of what he did???

BTW Pistol grip looks great, what's it out of??? Wonder if it would clear the bench seat???

Thanks

That shifter handle is out of a 71-74 B-body bench seat car. I also have one in my 1969 Cuda and I love it.

Cuda340 you are correct sir ! 71-74 bench B-body.

And yes although home made, the bracket works well, sorry no pic's but it looks simple to make.
