72 barracuda 383 770 avenger 3/8 fuel line dp4b 1" spacer comp cams nostelgia 239 246 @50 484 484 lift hyd .Fram canister fuel filter.
After an intermittant problem of not restarting at bad times till it sat awhile ,My car finally wouldn't start when cold and at home. The fuel pressure gage showed 0 psi.I unhooked the line at the carb ,cranked,no gas.Ok, replace very new carter street strip 9psi pump with a new holly pump and 0 gas at carb. scratch head? Start to loosen input line on 25$ regulator and gas blowes out everywhere.Regulator decided to completly stop flow. I removed regulator, car runs super in garage. No flooding.Holley book says 7 1/2 psi max .Holley mechanical Pump is at 8psi, carter pump was 9 psi. Should I let thin gs as is ??or will I have problems and need to install a good regulator??

I have seen and myself run around 9 psi on both my eddy carb and demon with no problem. I put many street miles the car this way. However i did later on install a regulator. for piece of mind. What could happen is the gas might push passed the needle and seat. So IMO i would just pony up and get a regulator.

holleys don't like higher that 7.5. It will eventually overfill. You need a regulator, or I think it is the red pump that only puts out 7.5.

Is that Mr Gasket regulator the type that is round, silver and has a knob on top that you rotate? Like a Spectre brand? All it is is a bunch of little holes that line up to pregressively bigger holes to give you a regulated pressure (the numbers dont mean squat on top, how much pressure does it know coming in?) Anyway, i took mine apart years ago and it might just be plugged up. Its still in my drawer and I have another one on a motor I just bought, not using either. want it?

I have a spectre regulator that did the same thing

I still need to take it apart and clean it. I wonder if a filter right before it would help

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I had the same problem. If you're going to run one the holley regulator is only a few dollars more and works well.

Yes its the round silver one with the knob. I adjusted it by looking at the pressure gauge at the carb. My filter is right before it, so that didn't help any. It must be junk. I'm purchasing the holly regulater for peace of mind also, I guess.
