Have any of you guys encountered any type of "security screws" holding down the flip top fuel filler cap on your 68' Chargers? My 69' and 70' Chargers have phillips head screws that I always thought to be original. Have never these

Got a call from a guy that has a beautiful 68' and he needs to remove them.........anybody know about these and where one would find the tool to remove without damaging anything

I don't think he'd go for the approach

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

a pic would help.
there are multiple "security" type screws.

Torx, saftey torx, that kind they use in restroom stalls that look like flat heads, but only let you turn them one way.

Any of these could have been substituted at some point. Say for someone constantly "losing" a cap.

My 67 GTX has security screws on the same type of gas cap.

They are tapered screws with a round head, wider at the bottom than the top with 3 vertical slots in them. The slots are about 1/8 inch wide and equally spaced around the screw. I will try and post a picture later, but I have never been sucessful in meeting thre size requirements.

Snap on, Matco Etc. Maybe even a large hardware store like Home Depot or lowes.

Thanks...I will try Matco & Snap on first. I have been looking for a number of years with no luck but I do not remember actually checking with either of them.

I actually tried to build one with a 1/4 inch socket and JB weld using the screw head with limited sucess.

I got mine from a Snap On dealer (there's actually two sizes and I didn't know which one I needed so I got both for half price (dealer closeout). BUT, I didn't need them for my Barracuda, as I didn't have it yet. I needed the socket to get the Infinity stereo out of my wife's LeBaron. I got THE weird look from most of the people I talked to, including some specialty car audio shops.

Hi Folks,

I received the socket from Tufnut Works and it is 100% correct and works like a charm.

It is their number TGSS10 or maybe TG5510. The person to deal with is Skip. The phone number is (800) 227-0949 or (505) 424-1956.
