I'm looking to put a new cam in my 400 and was leaning towards the Voodoo 60304, so while I had the trany out I went ahead and put in a 3000 stall for the future swap out of the cam. But now with a little more thought I am leaning more towards the 60303 for this strickly street driven car. Have I gone too high with the converter?

How about next time giving the cam specs so we don't have to do your research!

I like the 60304 better.
Stall is fine for either make sure you degree cam.

Thanks all,

Dodgem,

My reason for leaning towards the 60303 over the 60304 was I'm running HP manifolds on this set up. I read a couple of articles on here a few weeks ago about overcamming manifold motors actually working against you, giving up low end torque with no advanage at the top end. Sounded a lot like the situation I'm in now with my current 509 cam and I don't want to make that same mistake again.

Degree that 509 up to 102 and you will change you view of it!
303 would be fine i think I would degree what you have now first!

Sounds about right. I went with the 60304 and a TCI Streetfighter (which they rate at 3000-3500). What gears are you running?

1968 Roadrunner 383 auto .060 KB 400 domed pistons, Stealth heads, Torker intake, Holley 830, Lunati Voodoo cam 276/284, .513/.533, TCI 3500, 3.91 gears, all ARP fasteners,

You will be just right with the 303, 3000 stall in a 400. I have the 303 in a low CR 440 with a stock converter and it could really use a 2500 or higher converter. With your combo it will be right at home with the 3k converter.

Thanks guys,
I'm running 3.91's at the moment but am thinking of going back to the 3.23's for some better highway speeds.

I've started playing around with desktop dyno for fun and it's showing the 303 only giving up 10hp but gaining 10 ft/lbs over the 304 with what appears to be a lot fatter curve. Not sure how acurate these things are but for reference they both seem to be killing the 509 in hp and torque. Even with the CR drop I need to do to run either.

Get ataller set of tires and continue running the 3.91s. A set 235-75-15s will cut the gear enough for cruising I ran 4.56s this way. mainly look for 29-30 inch p series or LT tire
