A good brand of 10w30 should be just fine.

This'll open a can of worms. If its a fresh rebuild I like to run a straight 30wt nonsynthetic oil, Mobilone and a Mobilone oil filter. After a couple hundred miles I drain it and go with M1 synthetic 10w30 (depends where you live) and change the M1 filter. 1000 miles on that and change the oil and filter same oil as before. Good for 3k to 4k depending on how hard you drive.

The can of worms is related to newer oils not having some of the anti-wear additives that oils had when our engines were in widespread use.

To be on the safe side, I would use a heavy duty oil (my choice is Delo 400 LE) which has higher concentrations of anti wear additives than regular oil. Rotella T is good too, and both Delo 400 LE and Rotella T are available at places like Walmart in 15w40 for $10-12 a gallon/4 quarts.

I use The Rotella T 15/40 with a small bottle of STP even though they lowered the zinc content in the Rotella.

what brand of oil? or what weight of oil? be sure you're not going to run something that's for a modern engine, like any of the "big name" 10w30 generic motor oils at the auto parts stores. I would look for a heavy duty oil, a racing oil, or oil that's specifically made for old engines, or add some of the STP stuff to your oils.

I was running the royal purple 15w40 heavy stuff, my oil pressures were 30 psi at hot idle, and 60ish at RPM driving down the road. This summer I went to a more generic royal purple that was available at the auto parts store vs what's only available at race shops, this stuff is only 10w30, and my oil pressures are now about 20 at hot idle, and 50 at rpm down the road.
