My sterring wheel moves in and out about a 1/2 inch. When it's in all the way it feels like its binding a bit? Is there a adjustment bolt or a way to secure it. The wheel feels a bit loose??? Thought, help??? Pic of how to repair would be super!!! Thanks in advance!

The steering column may have been serviced some time in its history. There are snap rings that fit in machined recesses in the steering shaft.
I just converted a column shift to a floor style on a 74 Duster column. There is a shaft-within-a-shaft slider type of deal, mainly to allow the column to collapse on impact instead of making the driver a shish-kabob.
Long story short, the snap rings may have worked their way out, or a bearing has worn enough to cause slop. I dont know the '69 and older columns very well, but the 70 and later units are pretty easy to service. If you can get a factory service manual, take your time with it. Once its apart, the problem may be obvious right away.

I had that issue when I did not assemble my snap ring in correctly.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Okay....First you remove the steering wheel. Next the turn signal lever and the three phillips screws to remove the thin steel plate that retains the turn signal switch. You may be able to simply pull it toward you a few inches and pull it clear of the steering shaft. Now the upper column bearing is in clear view. As I mentioned before, my experience is with the newer stuff, but I suspect the older cars are similar. In 70 and later columns, there is a snap ring right there. If it is missing, take a measurement and go to a local hardware store and get a few in assorted sizes to make sure that at least ONE of them is correct. If the snap ring IS there, the problem is a little deeper.

And the snap ring may be there, but not seated. If that is the case all you have to do is push it into the grove.
