I am wondering if anyone knows the correct color of the metal parking light housing for a 71 Roadrunner. The previous owner painted it all black but I have heard it may need to be silver. If anyone has a correct picture I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

A guy has a website called Sandy's garage, where he is restoring a 70 HEMI Road Runner, and he used walnut shells in a blasting cabinet to restore his. If I remember right, they were galvinized. He said the walnut took off all rust and paint and left them looking brand new without killing the original finish. It is a lengthy site with a lot of photos and descriptions. He was doing it in his spare time over the years, and it looks great. He started with a shell no one else wanted to touch. Worth googling and checking out.

He doesnt say on the site, but do you think you would at least clear cote them after blasting to avoid rust?

I suppose at the very least, I could cote them with a cast metal looking color?

They were originally a bare pot-metal finish. I satin clear coated mine after very very lightly glass beading.

Thanks very much. Do you have any other pictures of your 72? That is a beautiful car and I am planning on mine being a similar color.

Beautiful Ride. What is the actual color? I am going to do a metallic graphite gray that was available on early 2000's Vipers.

Thanks again, It’s Dupont’s version of the modern equivalent to Winchester Gray (GA4). Not convinced it’s a perfect match to the original color, too blue IMO, but its too late for adjustments.

Winchester Grey, in it's original form, was almost the equivialent to flip flop paint. It would look grey, yet green and everything in between. Does the DuPont do this as well?

Yes this DuPont modern equivalent GA4 has the same properties, sometimes looking green, grey, and or blue depending on light conditions. I had a test panel painted prior to any painting on the project, carried it around with me for a while hopping to find a car to compare it to, never did. Matched up well to some old original paint chips in catalogs from back then but looked to green to me in its out of the can formula. Tried to tone down the green a bit by adding some purple, looked way too blue, went back to the out of can color. Now that it's on the car still think it's a tad too blue, still love it though.
Went back to the paint shop after the fact to get the left over paint and was surprised to see this label on the can.
