Noticed that the trans runs about 15 deg. hotter with the skid plate on (more so in traffic). Had it off for a while to put on the 3" exhaust. I don't do any off-roading. Is it really needed, or can I cut it up for the garbage?

I would think that if you have NO intentions on dirt bashing, the skidplate is dead weight. Since you mentioned that the trans runs cooler without it, what the heck!

Frankenduster is correct but I would not destroy it cause you or someone that does 4 wheel might need it someday.
I don't think any of the Jeeps or Scouts I have came with the factory skid plates when I got them....so I have to hunt them down and seems like everyone just threw them away lol
Never know what you might need in the future.
I remember throwing away 383/440 and 340 exhaust manifolds when I put headers on years ago.
Wish I had them back.

If it's seen any kind of off road in it's lifetime that thing will weigh a ton with all the grooves in them traping dirt. I don't see the reason for it it's a heavy chunk of plastic. JMO.
