I did a search, but all I saw were Denso's on non-AC cars. Well I picked up a 90 amp alt and am trying to fit it on the 440 with AC. Before I start cutting things, I want to see if this is even possible and has anyone done this already? The alt just seems too thick to fit. My AC brackets and pulleys are '72ish.

I went through this on a "B" with AC. The brackets for AC pivot differently than non AC cars, have extra bracing and have a fixed distance from the slot and pivot point. They are less "flexible" than non AC brackets. Also I believe the Denso is thicker. The Andy F designed brackets for a Denso in a non AC car hangs the alternator out to clear the head.

The Denso has a bigger distance between top and bottom mounting lugs compared to the standard small case Chrysler alternator.

Long story short, I couldn't figure a way (or find a way on the board) to make it work with a Denso + AC on a BB.

Earlier, I tried a Powermaster GM based alternator. It fit the brackets but was too thick and wanted to hit my Ed heads.

I needed more amps and still had the mounting brackets from my core engine ('78 Cordoba) for the "large case" 100A Chrysler alternator with AC. I cleaned the brackets up and got a reman alternator from NAPA. It works great... plenty of power at idle and going down the road. Pulley alignment was perfect.

In the drawback category, the big case Chrysler is a bit heavy, I had to raise the upper radiator hose about 1 1/2" to clear the higher belts and move the receiver dryer on the fender back about 1 1/2" to clear the alternator which hangs out farther.

I posted pics and could dig them up if you can't find the original post.

Ahy, that's some great info. Bummer that the Denso's won't fit on AC cars - we probably need them most.
I have a 90 amp Chrysler alt from the late '70's that looks thin enough, but the mounting hole distance looks wrong for the fixed distance of the lower AC bracket.
I have ac AC alt bracket from a '66 440 which put the alt way away from the head. I'll investigate that now.
Otherwise looks like I'm stuck with a square back, that I'll try and upgrade for more amps at idle somehow.

Here's the old post. Pics of the "big case" in a Challenger are in the attachment. Lots of other info in the other comments also.

I put it on my 440 with non ac brackets and pullys

had to flip it over and use the single ear/lug as a pivot point and shim it out with a tube spacer

this moves the power stud out away from the head and just leaves enuff room for the field wires to bolt up

only has about 1/4" clearance by the core plug on the end of the head

I just used a long thru both on the ears/lugs for the adjuster side

I had to make the lower swing arm a couple inches longer also

maybe a low mount brackets will work for you

so far I have not seen it on a/c cars/trucks

seems I used the power steer belt when I removed it for manual and went to the mini alt at the same time

took some fiddling till I figured to flip it over and mount it

its in the sig pic,if some close ups might help give you an idea let me know I will snap some

My Denso alternator went in just fine on the TT440. I trimmed the power stud and lengthened the swing bracket.

You don't have to replace the factory unit to get better performance. Check out the bottom half of this page: http://www.allpar.com/history/mopar/electrical.html

Then, go here and place an order:

Check out this page for some ideas. They might be able to help you. I'm also going to use the Denso but I'm going to try and put my A/C compressor under the Alt.
