I've had this annoying oil leak for a while, I thought
it was one of my suction line filters... well I put
the car up in the shop and REALLY got the engine warm
to thin out the oil... well it wasnt what I thought...
looks like the dist O-ring might be bad... anyways I'm
pulling the intake just so I can see a little better
there... only takes 5 minutes to pull the intake on
a W-9... I want to check the back of the valley pan
also.... but I can see it dripping down from right
up there.... oil leaks... I HATE THEM
I might have to go to a larger suction line for the
lifter valley(its pretty much a sealed valley so I
have a suction line up there)

Yep , i HATE oil leaks too , also got a slight leak i can't seem to find , think it maybe between valley plate & head , last BIG leak was when the front miloden timing cover came loose (all bolts) , the gear drive threw the oil out the front cover & all over the engine , was in the bleach box @ the time.

Well its a O-ring on the dist ... or should I say the
lack of the O-ring on the dist... I pulled the dist
and there wasnt any O-ring there... I guess I never
put one on it... sure hope thats the only leak... its
sorta hard to be sure till I put it back together
and check it again... cant believe I missed that
when I built the engine... oh well

Mike, I wish I could give you shi* about missing that o-ring, but I had a oil leak on my new engine that I just wiped up for 3 weeks till I could really check it (near the oil pump, RB). I finally pulled the oil pump and found that I failed to put the two o-rings back in between the filter head and pump body. I took it apart to clean it before installing it. Still not sure how I missed that.

I thought that there was one on the dist when I put
it in... guess not... doesnt look like there was ever
one on it... I'll have to find one tomorrow... Plus
I'm glad I pulled the intake and the upper coolant
tubes that mount to the heads... one port was almost
plugged solid with something... I used a air hose and
blew it clear but I never found what was blocking it,
that was the rear port so I'm sure that was getting
hotter than normal... thats what you get when the
car sits for over a year and a half

After cussing the pi** poor quality of the new Melling oil pumps, then finding no o-rings (that I failed to reinstall), I was quite impressed that the leak was so slight. Pretty good machine fit, I think.
And Mike, the Felpro RB intake gasket kit (PN 1215), has the distrib gasket & o-ring in that kit. If you know anyone close by that uses that kit, they probably got them laying around.

That reminds me... I think I have a couple of the
rebuild kits around that should have a O-ring...
just got to find them... I'm still putting stuff
in the shop after building it

I see I have a crack in my oil pressure line also
so thats another thing... I found a O-ring in my
gasket rebuild sets so thats all back together...
I have to pick up a 1/8" compression collect and some
water wetter, oil... get the oil changed and should
be done
