I'll have to put a dent in my header to get past the Power Steering Unit. I'd like to try to do this in the car. If I heat the spot up with a propane bottle torch, will I be able to just pry a dent into the tube? They're 1-3/4" 18ga tubes.
Info to thise with the same combo: This is a '67 Plymouth B-Body with a B-motor, and Summit brand headers. Great looking headers for the money, but be ready for this headache.

Depending on how much clearence is needed, I ground a slot in a couple of fender washers and placed them between the single bolt on the motor mount and the K-member. This Gave me plenty of clearence and the slight tilt doesn't seem to be a problem. Small block, A-Body .
I actually just did this myself. The upper corner of my power steering coupler was hitting and getting snagged on the header tube.
I raised up the motor and put a couple of washers inbetween the motor mount and Kframe which gave me enough clearance.
I was also able to raise up the passenger side a little bit without using washers so that the motor was level

The issue I see with raising the motor is hood clearance. I would HAVE to raise both sides, as there's no way I could look at my motor tilted, and live with it (call me anal?). I'm using an Eddy RPM intake manifold, which barely clears the hood, with a drop-base air cleaner now.
Getting the headers back out would be a major P-I-A! I can lift them up a decent ways, I'll try to brace a section of 2x4 behind the tube and go after it with a hammer, I guess. I gotta think that a hammer will be just as hard on the finish as a torch would?? Thanks guys.

ballpeen hammer will work I have use a large socket against the tube also to get a rounded dimple large enuff so I did not have to beat the tube with the ballpeen so much I would remove it(I know you dont want to) place 2x4 behind the tube I would hate to heat and beat for clearance and gain an exahst leak at the engine flange..DAMHIK wound up pulling it,rewelding all the way around the #1 tube and engine flange cause it dimpled at the flange close to were I need the clearance good luck with it

*** UPDATE *** okay, after banging on these things for a while, I finally got to the point where I asked myself: WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?! This lesson of buying the right stuff the first time seems to be tough for me to learn, and I almost did it again. After then thinking it made sense to order a set of Heddman's (1-3/4" primaries), I think I've finally learned the lesson. I just got off the phone with Summit, and ordered a set of Hooker Comps (1-7/8" primary, which my 452 needs anyway). Only because I originally tried to cheap out with the Summit Brand @ $110-, I essentially paid $365 for them, instead of $255. Is this a disease I share with anyone else??

The Summit set says right on the application chart that it interfere's with Power steering. Don't ask me how I did not look at this the first time through, but I didn't. When I first trial fit them, I saw that I'd have to clearance them a little at the PS pump, ended up being much more than I had hoped. Guys with Hookers and my application have said they fit fine (??), and the application chart says it should fit. If they don't, I won't start down this road again, I'll just return them and settle for the 1-3/4" hedmans, which I know fit.

I've run the 1 7/8 Hooker Comps in many 440 B and E applications and they fit like a glove - I mean perfectly, with plenty of ground clearance too. A really good header in my experience. -dulcich
hooker comps or hooker supper comps - big difference...
The comps go under the drag link, super comps are more natural
I have super comps on my SB PS e-body and they fit quite well, but they were a pain to get in...

Exactly! You just have to order them for the right application. I have a set of Hooker ceramic coated Comp 1 7/8 on my 70 Charger RT with 512ci,powersteering,4speed and have the bigger Firm Feel 1.06 torsion bars to boot! I didnt have to ding them or grind anything at all. They fit like they grew there!
I used Remflex header gaskets also which I highly recommend!

Comps are 1 7/8 and Super Comps are 2 inch primarys. Two different animals....so if you are not looking for every ounce of power the 1 7/8 should be just fine for a street/strip car.

You are comparing smallblock to bigblock , apples and oranges , no big block header runs a tube under the centerlink.

The 2" tube Hookers do have a slip fit tube that wraps AROUND the left torsion bar......
that's nice , but if you had actually READ what was posted you would have noticed the words DRAG LINK and CENTER LINK , no one said anything about a TORSION BAR ...
but thanks for that nugget of info.

I ordered COMP's. They're 1-7/8". I've never seen a set of big block headers that go under the drag-bar, but small block B-body headers regularly do. (go figure that one out??) They should be here later this week. I'll post an update once I get them fitted.
