I am looking for the biggest coil I can get away with on a street/strip car. I was looking at the MSD coils and found the HVC-2 Blaster Coil, here. I have been chasing a ignition problem in my 440 for months and have decided to upgrade to the MSD to get away from the stock ignition. I want to upgrade to the MSD 6AL-2 Box and the Ready To Run Distributor with the biggest coil I can find. Bassically I want to shock the snout out of my igintion and still have it street safe. I have a 440, 9.3:1 compression, Comp Cams XE-268H cam, and headers. What do you guys think of the HVC-2 Coil? What do they consider High Rpm and Long duration? A 40 min. 3500 Rpm cruise to work or a blast around a long road course trying to find the rev limiter? Quote:

What coil do you guys run?

I have run the Sub with this coil now for a couple of years and use the 6al box. 7k shifts are normal for me but I have never used for long duration. zero issuses to date for me.

I was thinking about using the Taylor ThunderVolt 50 wires. They are 10.4mm, seem impressive.

Think those are good enough?
I dont think you can use those spiral wound wires with the MSD...
I bought a set of 409's spiral wound off ebay once...I was almost finished cutting and fitting them to the Duster when I realized what they were..I called MSD and asked them about it...I have a 7aL-2 in that car and was told they wouldnt work...so Im sitting on a custom made set of spiral core wires...

I`ve been running the HVC 8250 for about a year and a half and have zero issues with hundreds of street miles..........whatever you do, DON`T touch it while it`s running.

for the night/evening crew. There are some pictures over on the Q&A side of the HVC coils mounted on the engine. Pretty neat stuff, I am going to see if I can hide one under my breather. This picture was stolen from other post.

Just my , but I think a Blaster 2 would be sufficient for your combination. Strictly as an example, I run a MSD billet distributor,6AL and a Blaster 2 coil on my wife's Barracuda. Zero troubles over the years and the car runs deep into the 11's in 100% street trim. I painted the coil black so it even looks stock. The 6AL is hidden under the battery tray. (Right side up.) We plan on taking the car on a 50 mile drive tomorrow and I'm sure you know what the forecast is for St. Louis. Not sure my wife is up to it being a little over 7 months pregnant and no AC. And oh yeah, I recommend the Firecore wires as well. I was one of the first batch of guys to run them on Moparts and they are still going strong. They are stealthy-looking to boot.

How is your Cuda doing after the whole Monster Mopar incident? Have you got it going again? I have been away from here for a while.
I am going to see if I can call about the Firecore wires tomorrow. I am still on the fence about the coil.

We got it back from the body shop on Dec 31st and I had it running the same night. (They let me do all of the drivetrain removal and installation since I was uneasy about other people messing with that aspect of the car.) It ended up being a little over $20k damage when it was all said and done. Thank goodness the car was well-insured.
At least I know it was not just us that had issues that day...there were a couple other accidents right after ours on the same stretch of highway in regular pedestrian vehicles. I'm just glad our 4yr old son was not with us. That was a bad month...wife had a miscarriage the week before, then we got into that accident coming home from Monster Mopar. (My first accident since 1987.) If we had not been caught in traffic crossing the Poplar Street Bridge, we would have made it home without issue. I never thought it would take 30 minutes to cross into Missouri on a Saturday afternoon.
Here's a shot from the Musclecar Reunion a couple weeks ago.

Bringing this thread back... Because I have a question for the guys running the HVC2 coil. What kind of distributor are you running with it? I found out today that you can run the HVC2 coil with the ready-to-run distributor that MSD offers.
