topside Too Many Posts Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 20,773 A collage of whims	Typically the clips slide into/onto the molding, and the wire spring serves to hold them on the molding, then the molding is installed. The alternate method is to install the clips on the car and then work the molding onto the clips, but that's a pain in the butt.

Im not sure what year clips the OP is speaking of. your problem could be attempting to use incorrect hardware.
