Would like to know backspacing, rubbing issues, etc... I looked on the tech page for tires but didn't see anyone running a 15x10" wheel. Pics would be awesome too!

Many Thanks

They fit nicely on my '70 Coronet but I was running an A-body 8 3/4 rear and it's been so long I can't remember the wheel size or backspacing...

Yeah 68-70 B bodies have huge wheel wells & 295's work well... But 71-74 B bodies seem to have at least an extra couple inches of space... I wouldn't be surprised if 32x15.5's would bolt on...

AZ-Nick has that size on his 71 GTX. Here's a thread about it.

I have the numbers. With a stock width axle and springs not moved in the perfect combos are...
15 X 10 w/ 5-3/4" bs
15 X 9 w/ 5-1/4" bs
15 X 8 w/ 4-3/4" bs
Any of these should tuck under the quarter. I have had the 15 X 8 above on my 71 Satellite. Since the wheel is really too small for a 295/50 I moved up to a 15 X 9 w/ 5" bs. These wheels were cut down from 15 X 10s w 5" bs. The extra 1/4" of bs would be perfect but the 5" bs still fits nicely. My car sits down over the tire with no rub. No 70s jack job here. Other than the Cragar Soft 8 steel wheel that I was using for my 15 X 8 most wheels are going to have the bs in even 1/2" increments. I wasn't about to have both sides of my 15 X 10s cut just to get that perfect fit.

Great info... I had figured a 5.5" backspace based upon Nick's post in the link above. The 15x8's aren't recommended for the 295/50's but I do know folks still mount them without issue. The AR 200S wheels I need come in 15x8 or 15x10's only.

I specifically bought Firehawk Indy 500's tires because they do sell a 295/50/15 in that style...

Thanks for the post. Nice color/car... Looks similar to mine.

I don't have anything right now plus I don't have a digital camera. The wheels have only been on the car for a few weeks. Still have stock steel wheels on the front. I only took off the 8" wide steel wheels to use them for some 275 drag radials. I am glad to have the wider wheels though. They don't bend the tires as much. When the below sig picture was taken the car still had the 15 X 8s on the rear. I'll see if I can borrow a camera and pop a couple of pics.

Says who? The recommended rim width for a 295/50/15 is 8"-10" Check M/T, Firestone, Cooper's sites & all will say the same.

A 10" rim is ideal for the size to make use of the full 12.2" of tread width but an 8" rim works just as well although you loose about ½" of tread width....

295's on an 8" rim on the rear of my car....

Hey 69, you are right...8-10" rims are fine. Sorry about that. I confused the 15" wheels with the 285/40/17's I was considering... What backspace are you running with your 8" rims?

Thanks

define "just as well" Yea they'll mount, but the tire isn't performing as well as it could on a wider wheel.

Better late than never. Also one pic of the car with the 15 X 8 steel wheels. Note: same tires (295/50-15) just flipped the letters in.

I always ran 275/60s over 295/50s because of height. Do they make a 295 or 305 thats a 60 series?

Yes, Mickey Thompson makes a Sportsman Street radial in 28/12/15.

Hoosier also makes a Pro Street radial in 29/12.50/15.
