Actually, I talked to Rick Ehrenberg about a year ago about exhaust systems and he recommended 3" head pipes and mufflers off my TTi headers, and 2.5" pipe from there back - and that was on a 364ci SB.
Some see the glass as half empty, some see the glass as half full. I just drink straight out of the bottle.

You'll be fine with 2.5" tailpipes. Power loss is minimal due to the exhaust gases being cooler after the mufflers.
There was an exhaust test done many years ago on a BB race car and it showed only a very, very small difference on the dyno and ET at the track.
Plus the car won't be as loud with 2.5" tailpipes.

1969 charger 383 headers 3 inch h pipe 2.5 inch tailpipe flow master mufflers , brand new engine .way to loud for me, maybe getting old but then again i run 12,000 horse power diesels 6 days a week and have the proof that ive lost hearing still too loud ..puting on hush thrush
