Has anyone done 3 inch from the manifolds into 2.5 inch tailpipes? This is on a 440 stroked to 493. I asked one of the guys as Mancini if they could sell me a TTI setup like this and he thought I was crazy. Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Actually, I talked to Rick Ehrenberg about a year ago about exhaust systems and he recommended 3" head pipes and mufflers off my TTi headers, and 2.5" pipe from there back - and that was on a 364ci SB.

Some see the glass as half empty, some see the glass as half full. I just drink straight out of the bottle.

Main reason for the 2.5 tailpipes is I thought 3 inch would be tight and I have a set of 2.5 inch exhaust tips I'd like to use. I guess I could cut them up to work but didn't really want to. I thought I had read about guys doing this alot.

You'll be fine with 2.5" tailpipes. Power loss is minimal due to the exhaust gases being cooler after the mufflers.

There was an exhaust test done many years ago on a BB race car and it showed only a very, very small difference on the dyno and ET at the track.

Plus the car won't be as loud with 2.5" tailpipes.

If you can get mufflers with a 3" inlet and a 2.5" outlet you'll be fine. Order the pieces you want from TTI.

I haven't checked around much lately but the deal with the mufflers awhile back was that any muffler advertised as 3"/2.5" had the inlet choke back down to 2.5" inside the case which essentially made it a 2.5" anyway.

Basically they were 2.5/2.5 mufflers expanded out to 3" inlet.

Probably better off getting 3"/3" muffler and adapting the tailpipe down to 2.5".

That being said it was easier just to order a TTI 3" system.

I had a local shop make my 3" h-pipe from my headers to mufflers and just bought the tti 2.5" tailpipes and had him use those. I do have just 2.5" mufflers though. Not ideal, but it works for me.

I have Dynomax superturbos. Very mellow, I can listen to the radio and talk to people in the car.
