I pulled the rear and springs from my 73 charger and was cleaning up the front hangers when I noticed that they are not the same. One is shorter than the other an when I measure the distance from the mounting surface to the center of the bolt hole, one is 2 3/4" the other is 2 1/4". Is this by design and there is a right and left hanger or did someone before me replace one with the wrong on?

Sounds like one incorrect hanger.

Is one spring eye round and the other oval?

Both spring eyes are round. Could one be off an earlier B body? I would think if it was from an A-body there would be like a 2" difference not just a 1/2". Could the 1/2" just be one of those early QC issues, you know, close enough.

Any way you could post a couple of pics? Might be tolerance? Both sides off 1/4" adds up to 1/2"

Here is a picture with the brackets sitting next to each other. One is taller.

Here is on of the holes next to each other. You can see the difference in the alignment of the holes.

I've got a 73 Charger 8 3/4 with the springs still attached, sitting in the garage....I'll go check a few measurements. Be back in a few.

Proper distance from the mounting surface to the Centerline of the leaf spring bolt is 2 1/4" on both sides.

Thanks 440trk. I wonder why one would be 2 3/4" and if that is correct for another year or body style.

I'll measure my 71s spring hanger this weekend, if you don't get a response before then.

Glad to help out.
