I am working on a 42RH transmission and have a question about the sealing rings on the accumulator. The sealing rings on the 42RH accumulator appear to be made from a synthetic material as opposed to the steel sealing rings used on the older 904/727 accumulators. In addition, the synthetic sealing rings on my accumulator are actually recessed below the surface of the accumulator. The older steel sealing rings have to be compressed in order to install the accumulator. Does oil pressure force the synthetic rings out to create a seal? What are the symptoms of leaking accumulator seals? Low line pressure? Is the plastic accumulator/synthetic seals a weak link in this transmission?

I have used the newer sealing rings on a 46RE, 46RH and a 42RH with no problems.
