I just finished having my Power Windows all wired up as per the FSM and they all work fine.......except I have the power feeding off the power lead on the radio. When I hooked up the battery cables tonight the speakers were making a pulsing sound.....then I smelt something burning. I unhooked the power to the radio and hooked up cables again..no problem.

I think I made a mistake. I have the power windows power wire connected to / drawing from the radio power feed. I think that might be the issue. Perhaps the P/W should draw off the power lead to the amp meter?

And yes I have the safety relay hooked up.

If it is afermarket and not full factory, I would get them their own power source from the starting relay, (less strain on the system) just make sure to use a fuse and a relay with a signal from the radio or some other 'on' with ignition source. This way the windows only work when the ignition is on.

This still puts the power take off on the other side of the ammeter.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

On my 1969 Coronet, the power windows get their power from the ammeter connection.
I think there is a 20 or 25 Amp circuit breaker, one end connects the one of the ammeter stud connections, the other supplies power to the power window safety relay (relay activates with key in run or acc position, same as the radio.) The power from the relay goes to the power window harness behind the drivers side kick panel, then out to all the power window switches.

And I would wire it all under the dash to keep it clean...

They are not aftermarket....they are factory power windows, just new wiring. I'm thinking having the P/W draw off the radio power lead is somehow overwhelming the radio?

Don-the radio power only is to turn on the safety relay- that relay then provides power- via heavier wiring and 30 amp circuit breaker for protection

checkout the attached wiring diagram and follow it.
a after market relay-Bosch_ will work for this!!

John...That is exactly how I have mine wired. Hmmm....I also have the power decklid switch hooked up there as well (links with P/W safety relay to Radio Red connection.

I wonder if the power decklid is the issue? Any diagrams on how that should be wired up?
