I've had this Flexalite dual puller fan installed in the Cuda for a while, but I noticed the fan was pulling pretty slow under the extreme heat (first summer with it installed).

I pulled the red wire from the adjustable thermostat wired to IGN on positive, and put it to the battery, and the fan jumped up in RMP and was much more efficient.

Right now I have it wired to an IGN on socket in the firewall fusebox, but is there a better option that will give the fan more power and not strain as much? I thought there was an IGN on hookup on the starter relay, but my test-light proved that wrong, unless I'm missing something.

I'm using part number 31147 for the thermo control.

Thanks!

You need to run a bosch 30/40 relay.

Can I get a little more info, like on where/how to wire it? Anyone wired one of these before? Just want to be prepaired for this weekend when I hook it up, I hate making runs to the parts store in the middle of a project.

Thanks again!

It's pretty straight forward. The relay is going to have four blades. One blade will be the load (fan in your case). A second blade will be the power for the load, and can be hooked to the positive battery post, starter relay, etc. A third blade will be hooked to the ignition on. The fourth terminal will go to ground.

hope this helps..

A relay is the way to go. You need a 4 or 5-pin automotive relay (aka Bosch relay). 30 amp.

Wiring is like this :

- terminal 85 : to "ignition on" signal. Draws little current. Small wire.
- terminal 86 : To the ground. Small wire.
- terminal 87 : To the load (positive terminal). Same gauge wire as the fan pigtail, or larger.
- terminal 87a : unused
- terminal 30 : To battery, through a fuse (I'd say 30 Amp for 2 fans).

Negative terminal on the fan pigtail goes to the ground.

You can either use a relay for each fan, or one for both (in that case, get a second relay and keep it in the car, or even bolt it next to the first one. That way, if the first relay dies, you just swap the pigtail to the spare.

When you get the relay, get a pigtail with it, it's easier than having separate spade terminals...

The relay is the way to go because you do not want the fan load on your ignition switch. The info given above is good on the relay pin out but you need to tie your thermostat in to the wiring. The load side of the relay (87) should go to the thermostat so the fan cycles with the thermostat if your thermostat cycles the fan B+ but if your thernostat switches ground then it should be connected to the relay pin (86).
