hi, need some input on where to go with this motorhome we've been working on... it's a 1978 1 ton dually van, with a 360.

1) if i get a weighted flexplate, like the B&M # 10236, can you then use any 727 converter (the stock converter has a big weight on it)

2) can anybody recommend a decent converter for ~$200 for this beast?

Cheers!

The weight can be added to another converter quite easily. I have read here that the B&M 360 flexplate was discontinued. If thats true, you might have to keep a weighted converter. Either way, A local trans shop can put you in touch with their converter rebuilder. Other choices are new ones advertised in Summit or Jegs catalogs. The closer to stock your engine is, the cheaper the converter will be. Even a mild 360 runs out of breath before 5000 rpms. A 3000 stall converter would be all wrong for a stock motor.

yes you can run any n balance TC with the B&M weighted flex plate...but you can not run the stock 360 weighted TC and the weighted flexplate together

a local tranz shop should be able to get a reman one with the weight for less than 200$

if its staying in the 1 ton chassis then a stock low stall TC would be the best,IMO

if your swaping it to a car then a High stall would get my vote

thanks for the help. i was looking at low stall rv/towing converters from b&m, jw, etc. wondering what it would take to make one fit. the local shop can get me a unit for about $100 so we'll probably do that.

motor goes but the rig don't. the trans itself is solid. interestingly enough the same thing happened in my neighbor's 92 dodge van, bad converter. i think we got a replacement for like $65

I have read here that the B&M 360 flexplate was discontinued.

Only the 904 version of the flexplate was discontinued, the 727 version is still available.

If you are using an aftermarket converter...the 727 flexplate will work with the 904 cause the aftermarket converters all use the same bolt circle..which is same as the 727...

in fact on the b&m 360/727 there is 3 different bolt patterns on it..

Although the bolt circle is the same, the larger diameter of the 727 flexplate might not be compatible with the smaller 122 tooth ring gear on the 904. I think that's why B&M made a separate 904 flexplate.
