On late 1969 model year B-Body cars, were chrome exhaust tips clamped to the tailpipe with Q-clamps or standard exhaust clamps (like the H-pipe to muffler connection)?

I know '70 models seem to have mostly Q-clamps, but I've heard differing stories on '69s especially late in the model year.

Mine was a June 69 A12 with u bolt clamps. I never seen a Q clamp on a 69 B-body? The parts book depiction is misleading. It is a generic drawing who knows from what year? It does not indicate what the part really looks like. Look in the 1969 Factory Service Manual and you will see u-bolt types clamps shown.

All A-12 cars had the standard "U" clamp. However I have seen many, including my original 69 road runner convertible from St. Louis plant , build date late June with "Q" clamps, provided and confirmed correct from Frank Badalson.

Gene,

Daytona? If so, all original, untouched Daytonas I have seen have the U clamps.

Thanks for the replies and feedback. Right now I'm still on the fence when it comes to this subject, as the factory's Engineering Illustrations show that the Q-clamp was introduced as an "optional" clamp on 8/28/68. Just because some paperwork lists Q-clamps as possibly being in use doesn't mean that was actually the case.

Like John, I've seen U-clamps on original-exhaust cars (Daytonas) too, however there aren't too many such cars still in existence and I haven't seen enough such cars (not necessary Daytonas) to form a definitive opinion... hence my question.

Any more thoughts or examples anyone?

HEMIGENO,
I got under my R4 Daytona with a June 5th 1969 build and took a picture of the original exhaust tip clamp for you. The B5 Daytona with a build date of June 9th 1969 also had the same clamp.
