Well guys, I have finally come to the conclusion that my heart is no longer into the drag racing so I am hanging up my helmet and selling the car. I have not seriously campaigned the car for the last 2 seasons thinking my passion would return but alas it has not. It has been a lot of fun over the years. I have met a lot of really nice people and would recommend this to anyone. I guess you could say I had an itch and I scratched it.
Garth
P.S. The car is in the E body section. I will also have it at the Mopars in the Park show in Farmington, MN on June 5.

Well Good luck at whatever you get into I guess I am a strange one compared to most. I started racing when I was 16 years old. Between money , marriage and lots of children I never was a major player. I have never even thought of quitting though. At just turning 54 years old I still love it as much as ever. The whole experence of drag racing is still as much fun as it was the first time I hit the track.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I thought by putting it away for a couple of years that I would change my mind, but I have not. I still have my 70 Cuda for street use.
This is the Challenger in street trim.

I understand completely. At least you have another one to play with I made 1 pass in 08, late in the fall. No trips to the track last year and most likely I won't get there this year, my hearts just not into it anymore.

You have to do what your heart feels. As I grew older into my mid 40's I started getting alot of knee and back problems and now at 54 it is real bad so thats why I have my street/strip 63 Sport Fury. I can drive or race it when I feel up to it and when I dont drive it then it sits in the garage. I dont run any points or any one specific track. I just cruise where and when I feel like and do the same with some racing. I actually enjoy it more like this I think. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and I love this so much I may die in my 63. I love Max Wedge cars the best of them all and I have mine to play with when I like. But by all means the best of luck to you and I am sure you had fun and alot of good memories. Ron

I agree with other's have said, put it back on the street. My short story, My buisness sort of took a crap the end of 08 and rollor coaster ride in 09. Didn't do any racing while I was in buisness, 8 years total. Making a living was more important, so the car got parked. I ran it may be once or twice a year. Spring of 09 needed money, so I sold the motor and trans. car been setting in the trl. ever since, regret it yes, as of now trying to put money together to build another engine/ trans. I hated to sell the drivetrain, but need the money to keep the buisness open. Well end of 09 I closed up. You may not have the interest now but that spark may come back later on. When I go to the races it just kills me to be a spectator, but that's how it has to be for now, but sometime in the future I will be racing again, may be not for points, but just for fun. I agree with the other's about meeting alot of people and friends while racing, as I set here and think about some of those times were the best times of my life. I'll be heading to MD tomorrow weather permitting to get my fix and smell the fuel and tire smoke and watch other's having fun. Again put it on the street. I'm working on a car for street right now, almost finished, and the race car will still be in the trailer. If the street car satisfies my needs, then the race car may go up for sale, don't know at this point, just remember once it's gone, it's gone.

Me too, maybe moderation is the key to keeping it interesting....

You tied i, had some fun, got the experience. You still have that other street car... So have fun, and if the itch comes back, scratch it again. Keep in touch with the people tho. Cars and hobbys come and go. Nice people don't have to.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

We raced for near 15 years---quit and never looked back--now the wk end rolls around and the wife says--want to go to the beach? Heck Yea!!! and ..no more getting up in the middle of the night to hook up that battery charger I forgot...Racing was the best fun I ever had and we made tons of REAL friends but having that extra $$ in my jeans is more fun now! Who am I kidding...keeping the lights on is job 1 and a race car don't figure right in that math. Have fun and do some new things! Keep that streeter though...when she sends you for a gal of milk you will be happy to have it at hand and a crisp romp through the gears with a balls to the wall top end charge is all it takes to keep you happy--just knowing that you CAN if you feel like it is the key!

A '70 Cuda and a '70 Challenger. You were doing well. That is a lot of money to tie up if you lost interest. At least you sat on it for a couple years to be sure, and you are keeping the Cuda. Is the Cuda an original big block car?

It seems like the more and more hardcore race people I know and talk to are finding life better with a clean 500-600 horse hot street car than anything they used to race with. Seems like a trend these days. I can relate. Best of luck to you MB

good luck I think thats comes with age. I think I am almost there
I think you're right. I turn 55 in a couple of months and I am trying to retire at 60. I knew the toy would have to go sooner or later, so it's time.
