The engine was rebuilt before I bought the car but not run in the car. The car is almost finished and I've run it several times without coolant and it fires right up. Once coolant was in the system, and it was running for a few minutes, I noticed a drip on the driver's side front header flange. When I removed the header bolt, coolant came rushing out. Is this normal??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Relax al is normal Srock big block heads all the exhaust bolt hole go into the water jackets.

some ways to deal with this:

1. Use studs IF you can.

2. Bolts make sure there is penty of threads going in to the head use a sealant. I use arp thread sealent you can use teflon tape Silcone etc..
It works best If you drain the block to below the bolts holes and let the sealant dry over night.

Also if you every play with a small block on stock LA head only the 2 out bolts go into the water good luck and get her sealed up

Thanks. Will do it this evening. Is it possible that the water leaks into the oil from not having sealer on the header bolts??

Not from the exhaust holes

If you have coolant in the oil you may want to re torque the heads and

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

This is VERY normal. Just add some Bars Leak, or similar product, in the radiator and your leak is fixed, just follow the directions. ABSOLUTELY no need to do anything else. I've done this on every Mopar engine I've rebuilt and the leak stops.
