I am trying to install Edelbrodk AIS shocks.

They are too wide to fit into the shock mount in the lower control arm.

The shocks are 1.25 inches wide and the shock mount tabs are only 1.0 inch wide.
The quarter of an inch does not seem like much, but it is enough that I would have to do some decent modifing of the shock or mount to get them to fit in there.

I figure that I either have the wrong shocks or shock mount tabs are bent. I checked the part numbers and the descriptions and the shocks appear to be the correct versions.

The old shocks (coil overs that do not seem like the right application for this car) were only 0.90 inch wide and the shock mount tabs may have been bent previously when the bolts were tightened.

Does anyone know the correct width for the lower control arm shock mount?

Anyone have a pair of lower control arms laying around that could measure?

I wanted to check on here before I go "making them fit".

Thanks

I don't have a pair laying around to measure, but my money is on the tabs being drawn in to fit the too-small shocks previously there.

Were it my car, I'd just spread the tabs and be done.

At any rate, here's a back to the top for someone else to weigh in.

Down to just a blue car now.

I'd call a NAPA or similar parts store and have them measure a set of stock shocks first. The measurement at the bottom of the tabs, where it meets the control arm, should be the same as the top side where the bolt goes.

Thanks for the bump.

Maybe I'll try to call one of the companies that sells LCAs and ask them what the measurement is.

I was leaning away from just bending it as the shock mount does absorb stress and vibration. I would hate to have a broken shock mounts later on down the road.

It's not unusual for the tabs to be sucked together on the LCAs and on the upper rear shock crossmember; I've run into that several times.

Your shock absorder mounting area on the lower control arms have been squashed in.
Stock opening is 1 1/4 inch.
I measured from ones that i have rebuilt, and sell on e Bay.
