All you truck guys, or those with ideas...

Let's see some pics too!

How are you bringing the rear bars from the main hoop out the back to the bed? On a Gen II Dakota, is there enough room above the widow for this?

Also, what are you doing about a bed cover?

Thanks!

My down tubes came through right above the window. I actually cut into the rubber gasket. The rear bed cover was a hard cover that hung over the bed edges when new. I believe it was a Jason lid. I cut and cut and cut some more to get it to fit flush between the bedrails.. Looked good. I just never got to finish it.

When you decide to quit, THAT is the moment when you would've succeeded..

based on the replies to this post, not that anyone cares, but I talked to the person doing the cage and it seems that they are running the bars from the middle of the main hoop through the cab below the rear window, through the bed parallel to the bed to where ever it mounts in the back. So the covers are not affected.

On my scrap pile I ran the bars through the rear window opening and made up a new rear window from plexiglass. I guess there is more than one way to skin the cat.Dave

I bet Damon at DiamondBack or Mark at TexasThunder would know. I'm sure they have a rule book too.

From what I can read.Is if you have a funny car cage you don't need the down bars. This is how I did mine.My local NHRA tech said it was fine.I hate the look of the down bars.

That is the way mine is,the bars go through the cab below the rear window and parallel with the bed. They are bolted to the main hoop and bolted to the frame above the rear end. You can unbolt the bars to remove the bed if needed. I have a cover on the bed.You can not see the down bars.

A funny car type cage would make it tough to be a street truck. With that being said, your's looks nice!

I will go with the bars to the bed..not sure about the bolted part..have to talk to the chassis builder to address the issue of bed removal.

So no definate answer on this?

From my research, it seems bars that run through the cab below the window is not legal for 9.99 or quicker (unless you have a funny car style cage).

I would like a confimation on this from an actual NHRA source!

Most of the fast mud stuff run the bars over the rear window, Most of the time the bars exit the rear wall strait back then angle down to a cross member around the rear axle, this way it does not interfere with the glass, some trucks cut holes in the lexan for the bars to pass thru the window with no angle, In the faster classes the back bars have to go to the top of the hoop, the slower classes only requrie a 4 point cage, I havent seen any trucks with the back bars under the window, but it looks good
