Anybody here plan on making the AHRA race in San Antonio next week? The payout is good.

I saw someone say there was not going to have a Stock or Super Stock eliminator. Is that true?

For those who haven't heard, AHRA pulled the plug on the San Antonio event yesterday.

Both the front page of San Antonio Raceway's website and the first category on AHRA's message board promised a press release explaining the circumstances of the cancellation for this coming weekend, but so far nothing but the sound of crickets has been heard.

Interesting! They just had their inaugral event here last weekend and not many cars turned out. Granted the weather wasn't good but only 4 nitro cars, 6 promods and 2 jet cars.
They didn't even advertise in paper or on TV.

Pretty dissapointing. I was looking forward to a national event at my home track. I spoke to a lot people and did sense a whole lot of interest in it. The only advertising that was done was the fliers that were handed out at the track. I hope the IHRA comes back

Those were 'booked in' cars. The real flop was the turnout of bracket racers and spectators.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that spectators won't turn out for an inaugural event without any advertising.

Concerning the brackets, in this economy these guys were smoking something when they expected to get turnouts of 80 cars in the various classes to pay out their published purses, especially with pre-entry fees of $150 for one race plus an extra $25 if you weren't an AHRA member.

The turnout they got was about what should be expected... about 70 entries COMBINED for Super Pro, Pro, Street, Bike, and Junior Dragster.

Heck, even the host track, Desert Thunder Raceway posted a 'do not blame us, AHRA set these entry fees' type of disclaimer on the front page of their website before the event.

Fortunately for the bracket racers who did make it to the money rounds, their pro-rated payouts were supposedly paid in cash.

According to one of the Top Alcohol websites, some of the booked in cars were sent away with a 'your check will be in the mail' promise.

There were a lot of us out here who hoped that AHRA would become a reasonable alternative to the other-HRAs.

Unfortunately, these guys seemed to do nothing but paint an unrealistic picture of what they were going to do, then spent more time shooting themselves in the foot than getting the organization up and running.
