So I got this column collar off of ebay, and it arrived yesterday.

Keep in mind its been 15+ years since I've been in a column.

The top half looks normal to me, but the lower half looks odd, and has a hole in it.

I needed this for a 68 Column. It was listed as 67-69.

Will this work for me?

Lower top down view, hole slightly visable

Hole in lower

Looks like hole is for some sort of set pin?

another shot of lower column

I don't remember this hole in any column, I did have a member send me a pic of a column out of a 67 barracuda, and it had a hole.

Will this work for removing my column shift on my 68 Column?

thank you.

I looked at two of my floor shift steering columns (68 Coronet and 68 Barracuda) and neither had that hole in the lower collar.

The lower collar is for a 1970 floor shift (one year only)

This collar would lock with the key. Then a rod from a collum shift would conect to special linkage that would meet up on the shift lever on the transmission. when in park with the key removed it would lock the steering wheel and the floor gear selector(manual or automatic)

In 1971 the lower collar was changed to the lever that had to be pressed down to remove the key. This for floor shift cars. I cant remember if it locked the transmission or not. But I dont think it did.

aren't the 70's bigger like the cars with the keys in the column?

This is the correct size for 69 back columns.

So are the 70 columns small like the 69's or larger like the 71's?

I am thinking large like the 71's cause there isn't any room for a lock cylinder in this one.

The 70 collars are large like the 71's.

I have a 67 c-body steering column that has that same hole in the lower collar, and a set screw is accessible. If I had to venture a guess, based on the part numbers visible, I would say that the collars you purchased are from a 67-68 c-body car.

so whats the set screw for? it doesn't come in contact with the column, or anything else for that matter?

I looked up the part number in the pic 2880212 in my parts books. The closest I could find was 2880213. It is listed as an A,B,C, but not Imperial. It is listed as a bowl for a floor shift column without a slot cut at the top of the jacket.

Maybe that will help?

That helps, I guess I'll have to tear into the column I have as memory is a little cloudy as how it goes together.

I can't remember how the lower half attaches, for some reason I thought it bolted to the upper half.

I think this should work.

I wish I could remember how to get the pins out of the switch too.
