I have harlan sharp rockers, and Wanted the heavy duty thick shafts, and have heard that hughes are nice. I bought a set not knowing that all of hughes shafts are bananna grooved. Are these grooves gonna mess with my roller bearings in my rockers? Has anyone on here had any experiance with this?

my understanding is the shafts for the HS rockers are a special hardness to hold up with the bearings I would be getting some shafts from HS

I was also told the Hughes are just as hard.

I think Harland Sharp shafts are hard chromed. (different than bumper chrome)
I'd check with Dave first. I don't think his will work with needle bearings.

I was going to just turn them over, but I was afraid of them oiling. Ill Just sell the Hughes shafts on here, and get the Sharp shafts.

i don't think you'd want banana groves with roller bearings, . i believe the harland sharps have an induction hardened shaft specific for their rockers.

They are about $20 bucks cheaper.

It may sound crazy, but you can make a set. I bought Thompson rod and had a set made. It is hardened (50-53)on the outside and can be drilled on the inside. One of the reasons I went this direction was that 1) I get a thicker shaft like a Harland (gun barrel) 2) Correct diameter for my rockers. The needle bearing in my rockers are actually made for a .875 shaft, stock shafts are .873. 3) Cost, I have less than $100 in them. The rod is available at McMaster Carr and both shafts together were less than $50 delivered. It works out at least on the big block that there is a ready made rod the right length maybe an 1/8 short. So I guess this is an option if you have machine shop close by that you trust.

A friend of mine sold them to me, he used them on his street engine for a summer, then switch to a big block, and when he sold the engine he knew I was looking for a set, he sold them to me, and he had some crane iron rockers, but no spare shafts. I didnt know there was much difference until now or I would have boughten his when I got these. These were on a hydraulic flat cam. The 484 purple shaft cam to be exact so they are in great shape.
