I DA HOE
I will be in the market to have my AAR restored in the near future.
Can anybody recommend a quality shop that wont take advantage of me while I am in Iraq?
To bad we dont have more shops that would do a 25K resto. Since I am in the Spokane area that wont happen. I dont think it would be practical to haul it to GA.
Thanks

You might be very surprised.

We're doing one car from WA state right now and another just came in from CA. We did one for Canada once too.

Check www.Uship.com for the rates to ship to and from us.

In the long run, you'll save money AND headaches.

But most importantly, your car will get done the way you want it done.

Yep, Rocketresto. From local show car to National O.E. Gold winning level work, whatever you like they can handle it.

I guess it's almost unanimous, have you called Mike at Rocket Restorations yet?

One other thing since you mentioned price, the 25K max shop you mentioned will not get you an OE level car, nor will that cover parts and other incidentals. You need to decide what your goals are in terms of the level of detail and accuracey you expect, as well as what a realistic budget is for you before you have ANY shop begin work. A good shop will give you some guidance in that regard. Call Mike and have a talk with him, you won't regret it.

I realize that we're not really in contention for this job but I do have to correct you on one point Scott.

While $25k doesn't cover parts or materials, the labor is the same to do an OE finish, an over-restored finish or a custom clone.

We're doing our best to give the customer with the 1970 Cuda a "close to" OE finish. That is to say that it's as close as the customer wants it to be because he's going to drive that car. For that reason, we paint or clear parts that wouldn't be finished on a true OE job.

We've refinished a few items after finding that the OE spec differed from what we originally did and we didn't charge the customer one penney extra. We've learned a lot and future customers will benefit from that.

The parts cost on an OE job will vary wildly. But, we don't mark up parts as long as the customer pays for them directly or provides them to us. We also don't charge to help the customer find the right parts for the job.

The point is, if the customer wants an OE restoration, the labor cost is the same at our shop and the labor cost will not be above $25k.

We don't charge more just because it looks like the customer might be able to afford more.

Point taken and I did not mean any disrespect. I've watched your threads and your work does seem to be of high quality, especially for the price.

That being said, when talking about an O.E. restoration you are swimming in the deep end of the pool. Besides all of the required parts It takes allot of knowledge to perform successfully. I know Rocketresto has done it at least a couple times now and so has Paul Jacobs who posted above. Niether of them charges the customer based on the size of thier wallets, they charge based on the hours it takes to perform the job....and an OE restoration can take ALLOT of hours!

Are you SURE that you guys are ready to take on an OE restoration for 25K max labor? Do you feel you have the required knowledge base to pull one off?

We don't currently have sufficient knowledge ourselves but the people here, including the best in the business have offered to help any time we need it.

We're working dilligently to gain as much knowledge as we can, as quickly as we can. We're still doing free redo's on the 70 Cuda in exchange for the knowledge we gain.

In no way am I offering to hold to the $25k MAX price forever but, for now, we would be happy to work with a customer who could help us to do it right and learn what we need to learn at that price.

Thanks for asking.
