Is it okay to use header gaskets with stock exhaust manifolds? This is on a 318 w/ 340 manifolds. I have a set of Mr Gasket header gaskets. Should I use them or buy the stock exhaust gaskets?

Thanks,
ken

Why use gaskets at all? In many cases no gasket was used. if the mating surfaces are flat and true, you don't need one.

I never run gaskets on the head with mannys

I do make sure they are milled flat and use the copper rtv and bolt them on,let cure over night

headers..well thats another story,IMHO

I've had a few leaking gaskets on manifolds over the years (gaskets that other folks have installed) and the manifolds don't seem to seal up after removing the gasket, and they are visibly pitted from the gaskets (those 'quilted' metal gaskets, anyway).

Sometimes 80-grit on a DA saved them, sometimes not.

Try them without gaskets, and if they don't leak run 'em as-is.

Parts I seek: driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set 16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better. 69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields Send a PM.

I posted this same thing not long ago, I was told to use remflex. I bought a pair, not installed yet.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll use the header gaskets since I have them. It's easy enough to change them if I have a problem down the road.

Thanks again,
Ken
