I am looking for a set of HID headlights for a 1971 Roadrunner. Does anyone know where or what website i can get them at? Do I just install these headlights, or is there any modifications i need to make?
Thanks

I'd install a Painless wiring kit. Our old wiring harnesses weren't built to carry high loads of amps. Your old wire will act as a trigger off your headlight switch. It will trigger a 40a relay and ignite your bulbs. Mike (GoodysGotaCuda) also has a diagram but I can't find his website.

HID, xenon and halogen bulbs all draw less current than the tungsten filament lamps they replace. Your original factory lamps drew about 6 amps on low beams and 12 on high. From the Wikipedia: "HID lamps are used in high-performance bicycle headlamps as well as flashlights and other portable lights, because they produce a great amount of light per unit of power. As the HID lights use less than half the power of an equivalent tungsten-halogen light, a significantly smaller and lighter-weight power supply can be used."

Not entirely true, Hid/xenon lamps, once warmed up, will draw less current relative to light output compared to other options for sure, it’s the cold/start-up ignites that will tax your 40-year old wiring pretty heavy, in the range of 15-20amps for the first few seconds. All through the original 16gauge wire, bulkhead connector, dimmer switch, and headlamp switch? No thanks. The original tungsten sealed beams were not available in wattages that the current Halogen sealed beams or discrete H1/H4 bulbs are and the current demands for some these systems do require relays/upgrades the wiring, don’t kid yourself.

Last time I looked at a single light for my Harley it was almost 500 bucks for the conversion for one light. The HID dont just plug in.As for Halogens I have them in my 65 and they were in my 57 and the kids 62.All has factory wiring and 3 of them are driven at night a lot.Never any problems with factory wiring.Mine and the kids have been in at least 8 years.Rocky

I've done a lot of my cars. I just have not done the RR yet. Cheap systems are like $50 for the HID bulb and ballast kit. you still need a light housing to put them into though. For a 4 headlight system you need something like a hella 4 headlight conversion so you can use the h1-h4 bulbs After this is installed you can install HID in the low beam sockets with a lit similar to this Below is not HID they are only colored bulbs Put the HID only on the low beam the HID does not react fast enough to be put into high beams. This is why you do not see them as high beams on high end cars that have dedicated high beams.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I got mine from Summit
Hadn't even thought of them, good idea...they've got them too (even one with the small parking light hole in them, like my car uses from the factory)
(And I've got to order some stuff from them soon anyways...)
