Looks to me like my B200 Van has a 727 behind the Slant 6. The area where the dipstick tube is protrudes out instead of being a straight. From the description would this indicate a 727?

Is there any serious difference between this /6 727 and a 904 tranny for a slant 6?

The 727 was the default transmission behind ALL motors when an automatic was ordered in the B Vans and D/W series trucks. Like any other 727, it had the same length case, but slant 6 and 318 versions had medium duty guts, the 360,383 400 and 440 versions were heavy duty.

Some truck 727's had a short tailshaft. (Possibly ones with 2-piece driveshafts. Don't recall exactly.)
Switching from a 727 to a 904 would require a longer driveshaft and different slip yoke.
