not that i know of


i just cleaned mine up real good and i'm gonna undercoat my wheel wells. there was tons of undercoating on them before i cleaned them up.

Will be done shortly Tim, not sure if I will go through the expense of licensing them with the Penta Star.

Mike-Spend the extra $$ to license them with the markings.I think they would sell better being 100%.Just my for "us" 2 percenter's like yourself

If we've learned one thing from our new friend Dave Walden, is that if someone is going to reproduce an item, they should strive to make that item EXACTLY like the original or else it would be just another sub-standard part.
Why go 99% of the way, when you can go 100%.

Because

1. Theyr'e a part you hardly ever see.

2. Much cheaper to produce WITHOUT the licensing from Chrysler for the #'s and pentastar.

I guess if the cost of manufacturing a correct part is the driving force behind the decisions being made then us Mopar guys will just continue to buy sub-standard parts like we've been doing for years.

Ok Mr. FJ6 complete metal replacement numbers matching guy, lets analyze what you just wrote so you can respond with what you really meant.

Tim asked about the fender shields and I responded we were in the process of finishing them. Follow me here FJ6 I'm typing as slow as I can, "the driving force behind the decisions being made" would be myself if the part gets the Penta Star and I willing to pay the royalties which would obviously make for I higher selling price.

Did I lose you yet? Now, you comment, "then us Mopar guys will just continue to buy sub-standard parts", in the context this is written indicates all parts without markings are sub-standard?

Now, let’s see if we can put all this together so you might have a chance to understand what you just wrote. It's established, previous to your post, the shields are being made by us and you are saying our parts are sub-standard without the Penta Star. Furthermore, we are somehow cutting corners in manufacturing if we do not pay the royalties and cut the Penta Star in the tool. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? You wouldn't pay the money for them anyway so why comment?

Do you really think it looks good as a professional business man to take cheap pot shots at someone who is just commenting on a public forum?

I'll use Dave Walden as an example again because I think you and him are on an equal playing field when it comes to restoration parts.

Dave will stop at nothing to make his parts a 100% exact copy of the original, no expense spared. We all thought he was crazy to even think of having carpet shipped flat until his efforts proved us wrong, now everybody wants one shipped that way.

You, on the other hand are stopping just short of 100% perfection just to save a few bucks, and make your part more affordable for the general public. I'm certain REM had the same mindset when they put generic speaker cut outs in their rear parcel shelves right before selling thousands of them...and we just bought them up...

...and look...I typed this whole reply without out any cheesy cheap pot shots at your intelligence

In some instances I would not pay the premium required to get the "Penta Star" logo on it.

I mean look at the absurd prices of simple hoses. Hardly a new or breakthru technology and I feel like I have to be bent over with lube to pay the absurdly high price for a "radiator or bypass hose". Ok ok Im not blaming the wholesaler or retailer, they have to pay the royalty for the Penta Star. Yet when it comes to reasonably correct looking resto you dont want to go with another hose, so you pay.

That being said I would not pay that premium for the piece referenced by the OP. If you cannot prominently display your "Penta Star" in a highly visable location as the hoses are, I can do without the additional costs. To reference these unstamped parts as substandard when the only difference is the Penta Star makes no sense.

not everyone needs their carpet to be shipped flat at 2 times the cost. the last time i looked my floor is far from flat.

Now you're comparing a correctly made part without a Penta Star with a package tray made incorrectly that wouldn't require licensing anyway? You are obviously much smarter than everyone else, I had no clue speaker slots fell under a trademark infrigment.

Please don't take the comment about the metal replacement on FJ6 as nothing short of bragging on your tallent. I was very impressed with how you were able to replace every inch of metal, short of some small areas around some sort of number, and end with a perfect numbers matching car. You're the one that published it in a public forum for everyone. If it was a cheap shot, I was only following your lead.

I think i saw it mentioned here on moparts before that licensing a part cost 7%, is that correct?

If thats true I wouldnt think it would hurt sales with a 7% surcharge added for the pentastar marking

Well, no. Licensing varies based on the type of part it is. You also have to pay, upfront, once the license is given for a certain part based on projected sales.

Taking the emotions for a part out of the equation, you have to evaluate the percentage of lost sales not having the Penta Star compaired to manufacturing cost plus licensing fees.

Because of the minimal exposure on the car the Penta Star has on this particular part, it might not warrant it. If the prevailing percentage is licensing over lost sales, looking at it as strictly a business decision, the part might not get it.

For those that want to whimper, belly ache and lay on the ground kicking and screaming like a little girl that the part is somehow substandard, why don't you put up the money and make the part. Better yet, I'll sell you the whole run with the Penta Star at a couple percentages over cost and I'll buy them from you.

Hey Mike, This one kinda got outta hand quick! Like you say, oh the drama! Curious on how they decide how much to hit you on the licensing...does the fact that the pentastar is so hard to see on this part once installed tend to make it on the lower end of the spectrum on licensing fees? Or is it more related to key design elements that distinguish the brand...like a taillight, or grille...in which case this part may be low on the license totem pole too? Glad you are making them...when will they be available?
