I have a leak out of the rear of my tranny near the yoke seal. Just wondering if it is likely the bushing that sits behind the seal or would it be the seal itself that it is leaking. The drivesahft seems to have a small amount of movement which makes me think the bushing may be a little worn out. if so how can it be removed? The shop manual calls for a specific tool but can it be done with a normal tool.

Try the seal first. You have to remove the tail housing to get the bushing out. I use a sharp chisal/punch to collapse it without hitting the housing. The new bushing holes lines up the same as the old one.

Ther is a tool that has fingers that catch behind the bushing and pull it out. Then there is a tool that you use to drive it in all without removing the housing. I agree it is probably only a bad seal though.
