Just installed an MP P3690428 (dated 12/20/05) and wondering is this one of them Mallory built distributors.

If so, are they any good or need a lot of work out of the box. I just don't seem to get the same snappy throttle I did with my 'ole cast iron dual point.

I read in the tech archives RobbMc's report on the Mallory distributors and suggested reducing the mechanical advance so initial timing can be increased, if so, anyone know exactly how to do this procedure?

Don't have a year, but they have a brass shaft under the rotor, if it is brass it is on of the good ones.

You need a spring / advance kit (about 15 or so) from mallory to adjust it.

They are good dist once you get them dialed in...

Also I've posted some info on the springs earlier today in the thread titled 'recurving a MP electronic ignition'.

In general the MP distributors need to be reworked because Sheppard apparently insisted on lots of advance instead of more initial and less advance. My .02 is to find a shop with a distributor machine. That will be the quickest way set the mag pickup dizzy to match the advance curve of your dual point. Even if you need to do the tinkering yourself it will be a time saver.

I bought mine around 2000 or 2001 and it's the new kind.
