I have always been told to use graphite. Dry. Just pull out the inside and roll it around on it.

However, I had a new cable made by shop recently and they used a red grease and basically slathered it on.
Looked a lot like the mobil 1 grease I use for bearings and such.

Since they warranty the part, I figure they know best.

I had heard to use graphite because grease will stiffen up in cold weather unless the Mobil is some sort of synthetic.
