I have a 383 70 Road Runner with an early production number of 808 built in St Louis.I don't see the code 26 for the radiator on the tag,was this common? I thought all big block cars came with that code?

Nope: 22" rad was standard on all 383, 440-4 and 440-6 cars. You needed AC, and axle package or trailer tow package to get the 26" rad. my 1970 Super Bee 440-6, auto, 8 3/4" is a factory 22" radiator car.
