Thinking about putting SRT8 wheels on my R/T, do I need the sensors for SRT wheels or can I just ride around with out them?

I guess my question would be, does the R/T have the air pressure sensors on the stock wheels? If so, I would think you would need them on the SRT8 wheels. Where I work we have a 2007 Impala with the sensors, and it has been nothing but a headache. We asked the dealer to shut off that option, but they advised they couldn't do that. Now, my wife's 2007 Nitro has them, and they have worked beautifully.

Anyway, I would say that if the car came with them as OEM, you would need to have them working on the SRT8 wheels. Just my , and hopefully another member much more knowledgeable than I will chime in soon.

I honestly do n't know a thing about them but my guess is they are in the stem right? Go to a GOOD tire shop and ask them.

i had a friend that put aftermarket wheels on her car...without the tpms sensors, a chime constantly went off in the car - pretty annoying, but i've heard you can shut that off

Putting SRT wheels on your R/T.... R/T what? Coronet, Charger? Challenger? You didn't specify.

Tire pressure sensors almost always either bolt on, or are strapped to the wheel, and can be reused (though the straps cannot). IIRC, the Charger's bolt on, and that all models use the same sensor...RT, SRT, etc...if so, why not just use your existing sensors on the new wheels?

The sensors list for $24.95 each.

To my knowledge, it is illegal for a shop to remove sensors from a car that has them. In 2012 all vehicles under 10,000 lbs will have them. Take them out and throw them away, and your car will still drive fine, but a warning light will be on, and in some cases, a dinger will chime also. I don't know of any vehicles that will not function properly without them. More manditory junk for everyone, because some people do not know how to maintain their own vehicles.

DRIVE EM, DONT HIDE EM.
