Does it use the factory solenoid?
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Distributor weights not returning fast enough?? If the distributor stays advanced on the weights, the engine won't want to slow down. Anyways...just a thought.

Sounds like multiple issues. What happens if you warm it up, then disconnect the outboard carb linkage and start it? Does it still idle high?
