My Truck was ordered from the factory as a Cigarette lighter delete.

I have a TOM TOM GPS unit I would like to run in the vehicle,to see if how much im off on my speedo since changing the tires out. I know the GPS unit might not be 100% accurate, but its pretty darn close.

Id also like to use my Cell Phone Car charger while on the road.

I know these auxillary outlets(similar to cigarette lighter outlets) can be purchased for pretty cheap at places like Walmart.

Whats the best way to wire them into the vehicle?

just a question... what truck are we talking about ?

normally the wiring is already there, since you won't find any assembly plant making a special underdash wiring for cars with deleted options. So I think you need just to get the lighter assembly ( sockets are pretty much universal fit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-PICK...=item1c117f8267 ), fit on the right location and voila! wire will be there waiting for you

This wire ( on old cars ) is normally pink wire, sometimes with an splice for any other function with 90º barrel/bullet kind female terminal.

Sockets have a variety of disposition. The right one to make a nice plug and play job is a stud on back, but some of them are a prong, some other are wires with spade terminals.

The one I posted from ebay should it be the right one to make the plug and play job

Somewhere in the dash wiring, you should find available outlets (on e-bodies, there are 2 sets of 3, they are small bullet-type terminal female receivers on orange wires. One is used for the dash light bar , which leaves 5 available (this may vary depending on the options). Don't use this for anything which would need any kind of heavy current (but a GPS and a phone is OK). I wouldn't draw more than two amps continuously from these wires.

I would install a fairly small (3 or 5 amp) fuse inline with the sockets just to make sure no-one plugs in a coffee heater or AC converter while I'm not there, and fry the wires.

Alternately, you could wire a relay to supply current from the power lines behind the amp-gauge or straight from the battery/starter relay (in that case, use a fuselink under the hood and a fuseholder and fuse inside the car), and switch it on using the ACC socket on the fusebox (if I'm correct, it's on whenever contact is on).

looking at a 74 year D100- it was a separate wire from the fuse block- batt- spade to the lighter- the outside case of the shell of it was the ground to the dash frame!

what I though, already is provided.

so just get the propper lighter socket, mount and hook the provided wire. Done.

I always like the ones with the illuminated ring around them. It's a whole lot easier to see at night. You can get them at NAPA. The mounting hole has to be enlarged a tad (file) for the plastic ring to fit into, otherwise they mount and wire up the same. The light for the ring splices into your dash lights, so it comes on when you turn them on. The ring is generally green, but I put a blue LED light bulb in mine in my Suburban, to match the blue LED bulbs I put in the dash, and it glows the same blue as everything else. It really adds a nice touch. They are less than $5 if I remember.
